Desert Journey School of Dance, Salt City Studio, and Shahravar present: Summer Dance Festival: Desert Rhythms   Come celebrate dance with great music, food, and entertainment at the Viridian! Desert Journey School of Dance and Salt City Dance and Fitness Studio will host the second annual Utah Summer Dance Festival at the Viridian Event Center  (8030 S 1825 W West Jordan) on Saturday, August 22nd, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM This event is free and open to the public Summer Dance Festival will take place at the beautiful Viridian Event Center and will feature some of Utahs top professional belly dancers including Shahravar, Shah Sitara, Dragomi, Amina, and many more All varieties of dance are welcome to perform in the show (see below for application information) We are also pleased to announce that the show will feature a performance and educational segment by Brothers of the Baladi, the Grammy-nominated group from Portland, Oregon Brothers of the Baladi have been performing for over 30 years by adapting traditional Middle Eastern music and American sensibilities to create a new hybrid of World Music The quartet combines traditional acoustic Middle Eastern instruments and songs with western instrumentation, exotic rhythms with familiar grooves and vocals in seven languages (Arabic, Turkish, Farsi, French, Spanish, Armenian and English) to create a unique and highly rhythmic dance music The Brothers have been blazing World Music trails around the globe through their recordings and live shows for over three decades Come learn about the history of the instruments and music and then experience it live! Our thanks to Utah Humanities for making this portion of the event possible We will also feature guest artist and instructor Beth "Super Beth" Fish of Tamarind Tribal Bellydance in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Beth is a certified Fat Chance Belly Dance ATS instructor who has been studying ATS since late 2006 She has taught such events as the ATS Homecoming, 3rd Coast Tribal, and performs and teaches throughout the globe; in addition to teaching regular classes at UW Milwaukee Both Brother of the Baladi and Super Beth will be teaching workshops at Salt City Studio on Sunday, August 23rd For more information, visit wwwsaltcitystudiocom or call 801-699-6809 In addition to the performance, this event will also feature mini classes or demos for kids, face painting, an assortment of vendors including food trucks (including Wilmas Gourmet Food and Kona Ice), dance and yoga wear, jewelry, and work by local artists Desert Journey School of Dance, under the direction of Fvorboda, is known for a high standard of dance instruction celebrating all forms of Middle Eastern dance and Fusion dance, providing a wide variety of classes teaching all about belly dancing movements, different styles, and the history of Middle Eastern dance  Desert Journey dancers perform at festivals and functions throughout the west, including Fusion Fest in Idaho, the Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive, and Utah's very own Springfest  They are also the recipients of several awards, including People's Choice three years in a row Shahravar has studied and performed Middle-Eastern dance styles since 1991 Her background includes Egyptian Cabaret, Turkish, American Tribal, Swords and veils As an ACE certified group fitness instructor with a mind body certification, Shahravar is a sought after performer and Instructor who has taught workshops and performed in venues around the country She and her husband have recently opened the Salt City Dance and Fitness Studio at 1321 East 3300 South Salt City features Belly Dance, Yoga, Poi, Zumba, Hula, Pilates classes and more, as well as a boutique filled with lots of dance and fitness goodies  This event is made possible with the support of The Viridian Event Center, Utah Humanities, and SLUG Magazine For more information, to submit an application to participate as a performer or vendor, please contact Fvorboda at fvorboda@hotmailcom or visit wwwdesertjourneycom or wwwsaltcitystudiocom To participate in workshops, visit wwwsaltcitystudiocom or wwwslcbellydancecom
