The Bhutanese Community in Utah (BCU) follows the Bikram Sambat Calander and according to this calendar, the Bhutanese New Year falls in late April, which is on April 27th this year It is the year 2073 according to our calendar As January 1st is celebrated all over the world with fireworks and many other programs, we have been celebrating our New Year with our cultural programs, which includes single dances and  group dances, singing, and playing musical instruments We will train young boys and girls to practice and rehearse the cultural dances and folk songs  We have a tradition of exchanging wishes for the happy, healthy and prosperous life to each other We will be educating our young generation and the general community in Salt Lake City about our language, culture, and tradition We hope to make this event not only an exhibition but a platform to learn from each other We not only are acculturating our succeeding generations through this vibrant cultural demonstration but also are sharing our values and cultural traits with other communities We recognize artistic talents through awards to the dancers/performers We will also have some vendors with the traditional Nepali cuisine  We will encourage members of our community to prepare traditional food and sell it at the event We have different tribes with their own dialects, but we all speak Nepali Each of the tribes also has their unique cultural/folk music and dancing We want to work together to preserve and promote the unique cultures and to make the community we now live in aware of what diverse and unique cultures we are from Our identity is our language and culture If we do not work towards promoting and preserving our language and culture, our young generation will forget it and lose their identity We want to take this opportunity to showcase our culture and involve people of the larger community so that we all benefit, making Salt Lake City a better, safer and healthier place to live
